Julia Grant, a transgender activist, was born as George Roberts on 21 September 1954. She died on 2 January 2019. Julia Grant is the first person whose transition story was turned into a documentary and run into main media stream in UK. The name of the documentary was George and Julia (1979), directed by David Pearson for the BBC, a five hour long documentary.

The first chapter of the documentary was titled George. In the year 1980, BBC2 repeated the documentary programme, adding two more new chapters – Julia: The First Year and Julia: My Body, My Choice.
